After tank driver training in the East German army, he focused his interest on the history of tanks and armored vehicles. The allure of the unknown awakened in him the desire to describe in detail rarely known tank projects to future readers. In his works he places particular emphasis on providing the most details possible, which are based principally on historical archive material.
